Bio

Martin Golland was born in Montpellier, France in 1975 and has lived in Instanbul, Puerto Rico, Miami, Victoria (BC), and Toronto before moving to Ottawa. Golland received his MFA from the University of Guelph (2006) and his BFA from Concordia University (1998). Golland has exhibited nationally and internationally. Solo exhibitions include Vignettes and Aggregates, Birch Contemporary (2018); Now, as before, Galerie Antoine Ertaskiran, Montreal, (2017); Facades and Panoramas at Galerie Michel, Quebec (2017) and DARK TOWN at the Felix Ringel Galerie, Dusseldorf (2007). Group exhibitions include Àdisòkàmagan/Nous connaître un peu nous mêmes/We’ll all become stories at the Ottawa Art Gallery (2018); An Alternate Landscape at Birch Contemporary, Toronto (2018); Escaping Gravity at Felix Ringel Galerie, Dusseldorf (2016) and Human Nature at the Carleton University Art Gallery (2015). He has received the prestigious Honorable Mention Prize at the 11th Annual RBC Painting Competition; exhibited in various museums and galleries across Canada, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Power Plant Toronto, the Musée D’art Contemporain in Montreal, and the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver. Recent reviews include Nouveaux noms, nouveau lieu pour la Foire en art actuel by Josianne Deslodges in the Le Soleil newspaper, May 27, 2018 (Lesoleil.com/arts) and Canadian Painter Martin Golland Opens in Montreal in Whitehot Magazine (whitehotmagazine.com) with essay by critic James D. Campbell (2017). Martin Golland is an Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa.
